About LSRSOA

Bombay Suburban Art and Craft Education Society, L.S. Raheja School of Architecture, a CSR arm of K Raheja Realty, is one of the esteemed pioneer institutions imparting education in the field of Architecture. The parent trust “Bombay Suburban Art & Craft Education Society” started this elite institute with a professional 5 years full-time course offering Government Diploma in Architecture in 1953 under the recognition Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State which received recognition from the Council of Architecture (Constituted under the act of parliament 1973).

In 2007, the Bombay Suburban Art and Craft Education Society, L. S. Raheja School of Architecture stopped the Government Diploma Course and received affiliation from Mumbai University to conduct a 5 years full time Bachelors Degree course in Architecture (non-aided) approved by the State Government of Maharashtra and recognized by Council of Architecture, India.

Well-supported by the management and under the guidance and able leadership of Ar. Arvind M. Khanolkar the institute had progressed to being in the top 5 institutes in Maharashtra within the first decade and now under its current Principal Ar. Mandar Parab, aims to scale newer heights to be recognized as one of the best institutes imparting architecture education in India. With a young dynamic and dedicated full time faculty as their primary guiding force, the students of Bombay Suburban Art and Craft Education Society, L. S. Raheja School of Architecture have proven time and again that they do not just exist, but achieve success and recognition at various platforms and scale top positions among the institutions at all India level

PERSPECTIVE PLAN

The institute has always had the modest approach of sustaining our architectural legacy with a process of continuous improvement resulting in quality outcomes. With 7 decades of an architectural legacy and recognised amongst the few distinct institutes as guardians within the community, it urges us to stay on our toes and foster innovativeness catering to the emerging
demands of an ever-changing metropolitan. Changing with time, observing the world through changing lenses, increasing collaboration and encouraging inclusivity help the institute step in time with the rapid changes in our environment.

Expanding by diversifying, yet synchronously recognizing and adhering to the philosophy of a design school

Initiating modular courses or long term programs in allied fields of architecture like Sociology, History, Heritage Conservation, Landscape, Horticulture, Ecology, Urban design, Urban planning, Energy Efficiency and Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Waste Management, Management, Production design, Product design, Graphic design and animation, BIM, introduction to UI-UX, AI and advanced computer software will go a long way in furthering the knowledge of our students. Also conducting short courses in International Languages, Communication Skills, Business and Finance management and Entrepreneurship skills will help make these future designers better business people as well.

Fostering a Research and Design Cell

To formally start a credible Research and Design cell with a penchant for architectural research and contemporary design solutions. The cell is to be built upon the vigor of the experienced and knowledgeable teacher mentors and raw talent in the form of interns from students and immediate graduates of the school. The cell is to work on a self-sustaining model to safeguard the interest of its stakeholders.

Documentation and Publication

Efficiently utilizing the potential of a large student population as a resource, and by integrating courses, documentation can be conducted of places with architectural importance, social and communal relevance, architectural distinctiveness and historical importance forming an archived data base for the architectural community. This documentation can then become a part of the publications of the institution. Institutional publications focusing on student and teacher driven research papers on topics of interest and pertinence in today's fast changing times need to be encouraged.

Restart approved post graduate programs and create opportunities for the graduate community to upgrade and further diversify into fields of specialization.

Equip the institute with a Fab lab

To start, within the institute, a fabrication lab with state of the art technology like robotics, laser cutting machines, 3d printers etc. giving our students the opportunity and freedom to explore all aspects of design. To also equip the institute with a state of the art computer lab with simulation software with skilled trainers, thus urging and encouraging students into a domain of experimental and innovative design.
